BIIAB National Certificate for Designated Premises Supervisors

The BIIAB National Certificate for Designated Premises Supervisors (NCDPS), a nationally recognised qualification, is designed to provide designated premises supervisors with an understanding of their role and responsibilities in relation to the Licensing Act 2003, as well as other regulatory issues. It is supported by an innovative CD ROM, the BIIAB Licensed Premises Operations Review Tool. The CD ROM enables the user to assess existing policies in a licensed premises, suggests ways in which such policies can support the four licensing objectives and produce a record that can be saved and printed.

The qualification has an operational focus with a handbook that contains examples of floor plans and scenarios for three different types of licensed premises (a nightclub, a shop and a pub). These can be used by candidates to undertake basic risk assessments for their own premises.

Cathie Smith, Director of BIIAB, said, “The role of the DPS is an essential one to promote social responsibility within the licensed trade. We have endeavoured to make this qualification as relevant and practical as possible and aimed at all Designated Premises Supervisors no matter what section of the licensed trade they operate in.” She added, “BIIAB has over 24 years of experience in developing qualifications that are industry led and fit for purpose. The BIIAB NCDPS is one of a number of career development qualifications offered by BIIAB.”

The qualification is endorsed by Commander Chris Allison of the Association of Chief Police Officers. Commander Allison said, “I am pleased to endorse this qualification. The BIIAB National Certificate for Designated Premises Supervisors has been designed to support the role of the DPS in licensed premises. It incorporates a wide variety of topics that support and promote the responsible retailing of alcohol and includes other relevant legislation and best practice. He added, “Professional qualifications of this nature help drive up standards and minimise the potential for negative impact of the night time economy on the communities in which the premises are based. Obtaining this qualification demonstrates a commitment to social responsibility and provides the basis from which an individual can develop to properly supervise liquor licensed premises. I am delighted to recommend it to the industry.”

The course supporting the qualification is deliverable in a day. Contact us for more information.
