CRB / ISA Checks
What are Criminal Record Bureau checks?
This service is for employers of the private, public and voluntary sectors. Criminal Record Bureau checks enable employers to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially work that involve children or vulnerable adults.
The service is delivered through a number of strategic partnerships with the Police, private sector administration company Capita and the CRB Registered Bodies. Umbrella Bodies have the same responsibilities as the Registered Bodies and can also provide a service by which many smaller organisations can access CRB checks. Access Training is affiliated to the CRB Executive Agency of the Home Office, as a certified Umbrella Body. We offer the following services:
-
Checking and validating information provided to establish the true identity of applicants
-
Offering applicants free information and advice to ensure that their application form is fully completed and the information it contains is accurate
-
Countersigning applications to confirm the organisation has an entitlement to access criminal record information
-
Aiming to process CRB disclosure applications within 2 business days
- Ensuring all our applicants’ forms are safe and secure to maintain confidentiality
What is the process of the service?
Organisations or employers of any size can contact Access Training and request a CRB check for their successful job applicants. The main categories of occupations for which CRB checks are required include:
-
Those involving regular contact with children or the vulnerable
-
Those who work in the interest of National Security
-
Those involved in the administration of law
-
Those applying for firearms, explosives and gaming licenses
-
Professional practitioners in the healthcare industry
-
Senior managers in banking and financial services
- Applicants for registration for child minding, day care and to act as foster parents or carers
There are two types of checks that Access Training can provide:
- A Standard Disclosure is primarily available to anyone involved in working with children or vulnerable adults, as well as certain other occupations and entry into professions as specified in the Exceptions Order to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. Standard Disclosures will reveal applicants current and spent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings.
- An Enhanced Disclosure is the highest level of check available. They contain the same information as the Standard Disclosure but with the addition of any relevant and proportionate information held by the local police forces.
From July 2010 onwards, the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) will be processing ISA-registration via the Vetting & Barring scheme (VBS). These will make it a legal obligation for all persons coming into contact with children or vulnerable adults to be ISA-registered.
