Community Task Force

What is Community Task Force all about?

In 2009 Ministers announced the Young Persons Guarantee (YPG) - a guaranteed offer of a job, work focused training or meaningful activity to all 18-24 year olds approaching 6 months of claiming Job Seekers Allowance.

Community Task Force (CTF) is the work experience placement element of the YPG and Access Training (SW) Ltd has the contract for St Austell, Helston, Newquay and Liskeard in Cornwall.

This placement will offer high quality experience that is of benefit to the community, improving indirect benefits such as improved community relations and greater community safety or by enhancing the local environment. Placements will last for 13 weeks.

Work experience placements are to be 25 hours per week minimum with an additional 5 hours per week job search. It is designed to instil a positive work ethic, to enhance employability, work related skills and increase the chance of entering sustainable employment.

We are always looking for organisations who are interested in improving the employability of local people and could offer work placements.

As well as offering our participants placement opportunities, we have also set up two in-house projects; Access2Business and Access2Construction. The aim of the projects is to provide CTF clients with meaningful work experience which benefits and supports the local community, in the case of a suitable placement not being immediately sourced.

The projects offer CTF clients high quality experience in both administration and construction-based work. Currently, CTF clients on the Access2Business project are learning basic administration skills such as; writing newsletters, producing marketing materials and using office equipment. Access Training has recently acquired and renovated a modern office facility; the Stennack Centre at Holmbush, St Austell, which includes two computer suites, a reception and customer service training area.

CTF candidates who opt to participate in the Access2Construction project will gain basic building skills such as; painting and decorating, assembling shelves, fitting doors, whilst also learning the importance of health and safety in the workplace. The projects serve to instil work ethic, increase self-confidence, and ultimately to enhance participants’ employability, whilst also providing support to local social enterprises free of charge.
