Freestyle

Freestyle is an initiative funded by the European Social Fund and co-ordinated by Cornwall Council. Access Training is one of a group of providers offering an exciting programme for anyone aged between 16 and 19 who is not currently employed or attending further education or training.

What's it all about?

Our Freestyle programme runs over 3 days each week and lasts for 8 weeks. You’ll spend this time taking part in one of our community projects with the aim of building your confidence and getting used to a work environment. You’ll either be working on our Access2Construction project, helping to renovate community buildings, or you’ll be giving administrative support to local charities through our Access2Business project. At the same time, we’ll help you to complete a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace which will be a great addition to your CV.

What’s in it for you?

  • You’ll be allocated a mentor who will listen to you, offer advice and guidance and help you to decide your next steps
  • We’ll help to build your confidence and improve your skills so you’ll be better equipped to deal with work and everyday life
  • You’ll have the chance to meet new people, make friends and develop your personal and social skills
  • It’s free and you’ll be entitled to a training allowance of £20 a week

Foundation Learning

Once you’ve completed the Freestyle programme, you can then choose to progress to the Foundation Learning programme.

What's it all about?

At this point, you can either continue with your community project or attend a work placement of your choice. Whilst gaining practical experience, you’ll be working towards qualifications in personal and social development, employability skills and alcohol awareness and will also have the option to choose one of six vocational qualifications from the following list:

  • Business Administration
  • Cleaning and Support Services
  • Construction
  • Hospitality
  • Parenting
  • Retail

We expect most people to finish their Foundation Learning programme within 16 weeks, but if it takes you less time or a little longer, it really doesn’t matter.

What’s in it for you?

  • You’re in control! Design your course to suit you and your ambitions
  • Brighten up your CV with a series qualifications that are valued by employers (please contact us for further information about these options)
  • We’ll work with you so that, by the end of the programme, you’re ready to move on to further education, training or employment
  • We’ll also provide you with an up-to-date reference that you can use to apply for jobs
  • It’s free and we’ll pay your travel expenses up to £15 per week
