Calling All Employers!

August 2011

In June this year, the new Work Programme, designed to help people to find and sustain employment was launced. In the South West region, which includes Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset, Prospect Employment Training Services were successful in gaining the contract, and they have called upon Access Training, amongst other organisations including Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change and Groundwork UK, to help them to deliver the programme in Cornwall. Access Training is responsible for working with people in the areas of St Austell, Newquay and Redruth.

This innovative programme is centred around the individual enabling all participants to receive the specific help that they need to help them to find and sustain a job. We will be finding out about the skills, experience and interests of our customers and matching them with the most suitable employment opportunities available because we believe that if people enjoy what they’re doing, they’re much more likely to stay in their job and also progress in that job.

During one of our previous contracts to deliver a programme called the Community Task Force throughout Cornwall, we sourced community benefitting placements to help customers to gain valuable work experience. We would like to thank all of the local charities, social companies and employers who have worked so hard with us and given our customers such fantastic opportunities to gain new skills and build their confidence. Quite simply, we could not have made that project work without them.

We are hoping that these organisations will continue to support us with the new Work Programme but we are also looking for more businesses and organisations from all sectors within the area that can provide us with work experience placements or potential employment opportunities for our customers. There is no obligation, there is no cost and employers can withdraw from involvement at any time. We only ask that employers contact us first regarding their vacancies to see if we can match the requirements of the vacancy with the skills and experience of one of our customers.

We also run several community projects, which comprise of teams of our customers led by our instructors. We have some construction based projects and others that are more office based, but they are all designed to give support to the local community whilst developing customers’ life skills and ability to work in a team. We would like to make contact with charities, youth groups, support groups, conservation groups – any community benefitting organisation - that needs some extra help. This may include assistance with redecorating premises, cutting grass in a children’s play area, or carrying out a beach cleanup. Similarly, if an organisation needs some administrative support, such designing posters for a coffee morning or preparing mail shots to promote a forthcoming event, we would be delighted to hear from them.

Following our debut on Radio St Austell Bay on Thursday 28th July, we will be making fortnightly appearances during the breakfast show with Jim Kane and Sally Carter. As we start to build up a picture of our customers we will use this opportunity to promote the skills that they have to offer so that employers can contact us if they feel that they have a suitable vacancy. We will also keep listeners informed about company developments and positive outcomes from our programmes.

If any employers are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact us by emailing enquiries@accesstraining.co.uk or calling 01726 77600.

Access Training selected as BII NITA Security Training Award Finalist

July 2011

Access Training (South West) Ltd has been selected as a finalist in the BII NITA Security Training Awards. Having submitted what we felt to be a strong entry into the competition in May, we were delighted to receive notification from the BII that we had been successful in being shortlisted for the final stage of the competition.

Earlier this month, Gerald Banks, Training Consultant and Natasha Michell, Commercial Manager travelled to Birmingham to attend an interview with the 2011 BII NITA Awards panel of judges including Vicky Crossingham CBII, Estate Recruitment Director of St Austell Brewery; Cathie Smith CBII, Director of BIIAB; Cass Spencer, Licensing Project Officer of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea; Jeremy Scorer CBII, Managing Partner of Charnwood Training Group; and Guy Lincoln, from the Centre for Hospitality and Retailing at Leeds Metropolitan University.

The outcome of the interview is unknown at present and will not be revealed before the BII NITA Awards Ceremony which is being hosted in November 2011. However, Gerald and Natasha remain confident that they gave a compelling account of the hard work that goes on at Access Training to maintain our high success rate and they hope that this places them in a strong position in the competition. They feel very proud to have been a part of this process and to have been recognised for the excellent training and positive outcomes that are achieved at the centre.

Access Training Serves Up a Feast of Hospitality Services at Taste of the West

April 2010

The quality of the exhibitors at this year’s Source Exhibition and Taste of the West Trade Show was of a particularly high standard. For starters, the various displays boasted home-grown ingredients direct from the soil, accompanied by indulgent treats for the taste buds and topped off with superior local knowledge and expertise from packaging to printing. The two day event ran exceptionally smoothly and it was clear that everybody was impressed by the professional and efficient manner in which the showcase was organised by Hale Events.

Once again we received a fantastic response from local producers, suppliers and retailers who attended the highly reputable affair. From restaurants offering fine dining to deli shops providing farm-fresh produce, the individuals that we spoke to were all attracted by our competitive prices and ability to cater for small business or large corporate organisations. Our adaptable approach, mobile resource unit and base of widely dispersed trainers mean that we can deliver our courses at any convenient venue, depending on candidate numbers. Wherever our customers are, we can offer a friendly, local service that makes finding the right training solution simple!

Our extensive range of food safety courses appeals to those who work with food at all levels, whether they are in an operational or supervisory role. We believe that our training helps our customers to maintain the high levels of food quality which make the region’s hospitality industry such a success.

Access Training Goes On Tour!

March 2010

After our recent success at Expo West 2010 event at the Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge, Access Training has decided to exhibit at the forthcoming Source Exhibition & Taste of the West Trade Show at Westpoint Exhibition Centre in Exeter from the 19th - 20th April.

The well-established Expo West Exhibition, currently celebrating 30 years, matches many other national and international exhibitions in terms of visitor numbers. We greeted thousands of people, for whom tourism and hospitality is such a huge part of life, especially here in the South West.

The Access Training expo stand

We were delighted to be exhibiting amongst some of Cornwall’s finest local producers and retailers. It was a great chance for us to meet local people as well as those from further afield, with representatives from smaller businesses to large corporate organisations. However, it was clear to us that both individuals and companies are beginning to realise the importance of high quality training and the benefits that it can bring to any organisation by developing their own skills as well as those of their staff.

We found that, as always, there was a lot of interest in our food hygiene and food safety courses, particularly the Level 3 courses aimed at those with supervisory roles. But people were also curious about our new range of courses in Health & Safety and First Aid training, accredited by Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC), areas which are becoming increasingly more important as new legislation is introduced.

These exhibitions are a fantastic opportunity for us to meet our customers and business partners face-to-face, to show them how our open and friendly approach sets us apart and to build on those relationships which matter so much to us.

We are very excited about meeting all those people who are interested in the services that we have to offer at the Source Exhibition & Taste of the West Trade Show at Westpoint Exhibition Centre in Exeter from the 19th - 20th April. We will be situated at stand A20 equipped with full details of all our courses ranging from the licensed trade to food safety, first aid and security. We will also be showing off some of our innovative, state-of-the-art visual learning aids.

We look forward to seeing you there! For your free ticket, please contact Natasha Michell on 01726 77600.
