Course Summary
This qualification has been designed to raise awareness of the illegal drugs scene, to give candidates a basic knowledge of the law relating to the misuse and supply of drugs on licensed premises and to provide guidelines for dealing with drug related problems.
This qualification has been designed to raise awareness of the illegal drugs scene amongst licensed retailers and managers, and gives candidates a basic knowledge of the law relating to the misuse and supply of drugs on licensed premises.
The award was developed in partnership with organisations including the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), Magistrates’ Association, Metropolitan Police, Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR), London Drugs Policy Forum, Pubwatch, and the Association of Town Centre Management, and therefore has consensus from all relevant agencies. It provides guidelines to help deal with any drug related problems in the venue and advice on the development of strategies to prevent such problems arising:
• general drug trends, who to approach for information and drug legislation which may affect licensed premises
• the need for multi-agency liaison and the importance of partnerships with the relevant authorities
• how to initiate, implement and monitor a drug strategy (drug policy)
• how to carry out a needs assessment and comply with the requirements of public safety
• how to deal with drug users and dealers and eliminate drugs from your premises
• how to comply with the legal requirements in relation to found or confiscated drugs
