BIIAB Level 2 Award in Door Supervision
Course Summary
Successful completion of this nationally recognised qualification will enable the individual to apply for an SIA licence to work in the private security industry as a door supervisor.
Anyone wishing to work in the private security industry requires a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence to practise. The BIIAB Level 2 Award in Door Supervision is a nationally recognised industry standard qualification and successful completion of this course, accompanied by a confirmed identity and criminal records check, will enable a door supervisor to apply for an SIA licence. This qualification replaces the existing BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Door Supervisors as of 31st August 2010.
What does the course actually involve?
The unit structure reduces overlap between subject areas making it easier for learners to gain qualifications for additional sectors such as CCTV or Security Guarding as they will only need to sit the additional units. Endorsed by the SIA and regulated by Ofqual, the qualification is awarded to learners who successfully complete four units:

This covers those areas of content that are common across different sub-sectors. Topics include legislation relevant to the private security industry; health and safety in the workplace; fire safety principles; dealing with emergencies; effective communication and customer care. The module is followed by a 40 minute multiple choice examination where candidates are required to answer 20 of the 25 questions correctly.
Unit 2 - Working as a Door Supervisor (1 day)
This covers the knowledge and understanding for areas that are relevant to the role of a door supervisor. Topics include appropriate behaviour for door supervisors; elements of civil and criminal law; admission policies and search procedures; powers of citizen’s arrest and related procedures; relevant drug legislation; incident recording and crime scene preservation; licensing law and social responsibility; safety and security issues. The module is followed by a 60 minute multiple choice examination where candidates are required to answer 28 of the 40 questions correctly.
Unit 3 - Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry (1 day)
This covers knowledge and skills that are relevant to front line roles. Topics include the principles of conflict management; recognising, assessing and reducing risk in conflict situations; effective communication; problem solving strategies and good post-conflict practice. The module is followed by a 45 minute multiple choice examination where candidates are required to answer 20 of the 30 questions correctly.
Unit 4 - Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry (1 day)
This covers a range of non-violent options for dealing with the most common scenarios involving physical contact in licensed premises to reduce risk for customers and staff. Topics include legal and professional implications of physical interventions; reducing risk of harm; using non-aggressive physical skills; using non-pain related standing, holding and escorting techniques, including non-restrictive and restrictive skills and good practice to follow after physical interventions. This module will involve practical assessment.
How much will the course cost me?
The total cost of the complete qualification is £285.00 excluding VAT which covers tuition, handbooks, examination fees, certificates and tea and coffee refreshments.
